The crew

Brian and Sue Peck, along with their dog Dezi, make up the crew of SV Cariba. Cariba is a Bayfield 36 cutter rigged sailboat. Cariba is a proven offshore boat that has already travelled to the South Pacific and back with her previous owner.

Brian is the experienced sailor in the crew. He started young as his parents owned a marina in Cowichan Bay. They lived aboard their 38’ sloop, Kaisun. In the late 60’s, Brian’s parents sold the marina and with Brian they spent three years sailing from Victoria to Miami Florida. In 1971, the Peck’s returned to Canada and settled on Salt Spring Island. Brian continued sailing in our local waters, both cruising and racing. Brian was one of the founding members of the Salt Spring Island Sailing Club.

Sue on the other hand knew nothing about boating despite living on the coast in White Rock. She had never been on a sailboat but thanks to meeting Brian in 2004 she discovered sailing. Together they have cruised our local waters initially on a C&C 25, then a Brewer 31, and finally their current sailboat, Cariba.

Cariba’s home port is Vancouver and the crew all live aboard at Spruce Harbour Marina.

May 30, 2021 – Our crew list is now only 2. Dezi has crossed the rainbow bridge and we miss him terribly.
